1 Peter 2:12 NASB95 Keep your behavior excellent among the Gentiles, so that in the thing in which they slander you as evildoers, they may because of your good deeds, as they observe them, glorify God in the day of visitation.
I was watching TV the other day, and I saw a man who proudly and boldly professed to be a Christian do something to hurt his witness. He attempts to show Jesus as his Savior, and then he took part in something that many see as offensive and not Christ-like.
Scripture tells us it is not good for followers of Christ to cause others to stumble and fall away in sin. 1 Corinthians 8:9 NASB95 But take care that this liberty of yours does not somehow become a stumbling block to the weak.
Now scripture tells us that all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. So, as a Christian, I understand that he is fighting the flesh just like the rest of us. Therefore, I pray that he and I will strive and succeed in doing a better job to not sin. However, when he was confronted about this he made an excuse as to say oh it is no big deal.
This causes people to say sin is no big deal. We must confess and recognize sin as the cause for death both physical and spiritual. It would have been better if he had confessed and sought forgiveness for this. Something like, I should not have done that. I ask God to forgive me and I know he will. I will now try not to do that again. I am, however, a sinner saved by Grace. I will mess up and sin again. I am sorry and I do promise that I will strive to allow God full control. I am so thankful for God's grace in instances like this. However, please know it was wrong and I am truly sorry for this.
With an explanation and true repentance. This shows Christ and His gospel. It does exactly what Peter says in our text today. 1 Peter 2:12 NASB95 Keep your behavior excellent among the Gentiles, so that in the thing in which they slander you as evildoers, they may because of your good deeds, as they observe them, glorify God in the day of visitation.
Remember, we must not cheapen God's grace by viewing sin as insignificant. Our sin cost Jesus His life and three days in the grave.
Sin is serious, it brought Christ's death in our place, and it causes others to fall away. We must show the seriousness of it by hating our sin and being ashamed of it. Then we must live in His grace striving not to sin again.
These are good deeds that glorify God!
