1 Thessalonians 4:18 NASB1995 Therefore comfort one another with these words.
The words of God teach us. There is no better place to go to learn. There are books in certain sciences such as physics, mathematics, medicine, etcetera, but without God, these sciences would not exist. Education in these areas without the teachings of God will only temporarily benefit mankind. As in the end, they will completely pass away.
The words of God give us evidence. It shows us evidence of God and our unrighteousness. It reveals to us the holiness of God and our sin. It gives us evidence of God's mercy and grace, it reveals how we can receive these gifts that we are not deserving of.
The words of God correct us in our life. This gives us an understanding of morality. Romans 3:20b NASB95 for through the Law comes the knowledge of sin.
The words of God train us to live righteously.
It is the words of God that has shown me true LOVE. Instead of the false love the world shows.
The word of God equips us to please God.
Romans 1:16 NASB95 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.
Romans 10:17 NASB95 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.
Hebrews 11:6 NASB95 And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.
The chapter that brings us to our verse today teaches us that Jesus will return for ALL who have placed their faith in Him.
Then it says, 1 Thessalonians 4:18 NASB1995 Therefore comfort one another with these words.
The words of God are a comfort because of all the reasons mentioned above. All those reasons above lead to faith, and faith leads to Jesus returning for you.
There is no greater comfort than knowing even though we deserve worse than this world can throw at us, we will, by grace through faith, be saved.
And to know, 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 NASB1995 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord.
I just thought I would comfort you with these words because the Word of God told me to!
Love Bro. Scott
