Proverbs 22:3 The prudent sees the evil and hides himself, But the naive go on, and are punished for it.
How many times have your eyes caught the temptation of sin happening? You saw a glimpse and you knew it was wrong but you kept looking on. Sin is so dangerous to even look at because it draws a man into it. Joseph saw sin as Potiphar's wife called him to bed. Joseph had two choices to stay or to leave. He tried staying and explaining that it was evil in Genesis 39:9 There is no one greater in this house than I, and he has withheld nothing from me except you, because you are his wife. How then could I do this great evil and sin against God?”
We see that this did not work (sin does not give up when you remain in its presence. Genesis 39:12 She caught him by his garment, saying, “Lie with me!” And he left his garment in her hand and fled, and went outside.
Sin instead of giving up reached out and grabbed at him attempting to draw him in. The prudent sees evil and hides himself. I have in my lifetime seen and counseled several who are caught in addiction and there are without fail two things that must happen for a person to break the addiction. First, the person needs help from God. Second, the person must remove themselves from the temptation. To escape from a lion you remove yourself from his hunting ground. It would be crazy to hide from him in his lair or den. Yet this is what naive people do. They get off drugs and then go hang out with druggies. This is what naive people do. They stop lying and then go and hang out with liars. This is what naive people do. They break a sexual addiction and then go with friends to a strip club. I read of a man who had by the power of his newfound Savior Jesus, broke his lifelong sin of alcoholism. For years he stayed away until one day in a horrible storm he ducked into a lounge to avoid the weather. When he came out he was drunk. The prudent sees the evil and hides himself, But the naive go on, and are punished for it.
An atheist was on his deathbed dying when his best friend said just hang on. The dying man said I have nothing to hang on to. His friend also an atheist said "Hold on to the good times we have in the sports club, we can go back and get wild next week. " The dying man said I was holding on to that until I realized it was dragging me closer to death.
The prudent hides, avoids, runs from, and turns his back on evil. Instead, he reaches out for God Almighty. Once you seek (reach for) Him, He will never let you go.
Don't be naive. Leave evil alone and seek Jesus!
