Job 2:9-10 Then his wife said to him, “Do you still hold fast your integrity? Curse God and die!” But he said to her, “You speak as one of the foolish women speaks. Shall we indeed accept good from God and not accept adversity?” In all this Job did not sin with his lips.
What great advice we get from Job in this text. God who is the creator and owner of all has the authority to do with His possessions as He pleases. However, we know from scripture that the nature of God is to care for His creation while remaining righteous and just. He has done this since the moment of creation. So if He chooses, as He does in Job to allow Satan to inflict us with a time of struggle, then we must believe that it is for the overall benefit of His creation. The perfect example of this is Jesus' death, burial, and resurrection. He allowed the suffering of all sin to be placed on the only man who did not deserve it so that all those who deserved it could be forgiven and shown mercy and grace. Because of Job's suffering, which in his maturity he accepted without cursing God, His four friends were discipled in Christ. Because of this same example from Job, his wife was discipled in God. Because of Job's example billions of people have been saved and discipled in Christ. Many say what God allowed to happen to Job was unfair, However, Job who was a sinner like us and deserving of eternal Hell, was saved by an unfair act. Jesus' death on the cross has saved all who will believe. Let this be a lesson to us when we feel as if we are being treated unfairly. First, we are sinners deserving of far worse. Second, we are the property of God and thus under His authority. Third, in His nature, He always does what is best to bring the most of His creation to salvation. Fourth, our response to this affects others. Will our response bring salvation and discipleship or pride and destruction?
Let's pray we will always respond with Thank you Lord for who you are
