A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of hearing a man speak who truly amazed me with his knowledge. I have met a few people in my lifetime who have shown such wisdom that I was in awe of it. Our scripture today speaks of a man whose wisdom surpassed that of all others. 1 Kings 4:34 NASB95 Men came from all peoples to hear the wisdom of Solomon, from all the kings of the earth who had heard of his wisdom.
The man I heard a few weeks ago had spoken before Congress, on TV, on the radio, and in several countries. People travel from all around to hear from him. This was also the case for Solomon. The words of his wisdom had reached distant lands and people desired to be amazed by this wisdom. Both common men and men from kings were willing to travel to hear him speak.
Wisdom is a great thing, and it helps others to gain knowledge and oftentimes grow wiser themselves. I encourage people to seek wise counsel. From men of God. I in fact have men that I go to to be counseled by. They are wise Godly men. Scripture teaches us that men who trust only in their own minds are fools.
However, we must be careful because Satan loves to give unwise counsel disguised as wisdom. So when seeking wise counsel it is important that we understand where Solomon received his wisdom. 1 Kings 3:11-12 NASB95 God said to him, “Because you have asked this thing and have not asked for yourself long life, nor have asked riches for yourself, nor have you asked for the life of your enemies, but have asked for yourself discernment to understand justice, behold, I have done according to your words. Behold, I have given you a wise and discerning heart, so that there has been no one like you before you, nor shall one like you arise after you.
The wisdom of Solomon was given by God. Unfortunately in time Solomon started going the way of the fool and attempting to gather knowledge from every source other than the Lord. It was only after his brokenness that he realized that knowledge outside of God is not wisdom but vanity, (Empty). Since true wisdom comes from God then I pray that you will seek God first and foremost. With prayer, study of God's word, and wise Godly counsel, we too can be wise with the wisdom of God. James, the half-brother of Jesus wrote, James 1:5-6 NASB95 But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But he must ask in faith without any doubting, for the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind.
Seeking wisdom is wise if it is sought from God in faith. All other sources produce fools.
Love Bro. Scott
