Paul, in his letter to the Philippians, warned them to walk (or be occupied) with Christ. This is instructing them to live in a way that they are always right beside Christ. Jesus' journey through life was 100 percent aimed at glorifying the Father and bringing people to Him. Every single thing He did for 33 years was to show people who God the Father is. We are not Christ and we are not perfect but we should aim to be like Him. We should ATTEMPT to follow Him. I just this morning put something in front of my study of His word. Then I realized what I was doing and I repented and asked Him for forgiveness. Many however, will profess the name of CHRISTian, and yet aim for their fleshly desire. These people do as Ronald Reagan once said. They shoot toward the side of a barn and then paint bullseyes around their bullet holes on the barn. They do not aim to walk along side of Christ they just try to make it look like they do. This means they are attempting to justify their sinful walk and we know that justification comes only through the shed blood of Christ. It is a practice that can fool others but not Christ. He knows you are not walking beside Him. This is dangerous and breaks my heart just as it did Paul's. Listen to his words in our text. Philippians 3:18-19 For many walk, of whom I often told you, and now tell you even weeping, that they are enemies of the cross of Christ, whose end is destruction, whose god is their appetite, and whose glory is in their shame, who set their minds on earthly things.
Paul weeping says those who walk toward and in earthly things (attempting to justify it with excuses) are enemies of the cross of Christ. Then this is what really bothers Paul, and me, he says their end is destruction, their god is their appetite, and their glory is in their shame.
This is why I ask you to repent, when you walk toward things of the world. We must repent not try to justify. Paul says in 3:13-14 Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. I pray we will do this. Don't stop and try to paint a bullseye around your bullet hole repent and aim for the mark that Christ has already revealed to us. His mercies are new every morning. Start today with a new aim, to walk alongside of Christ and not the idols of this world. Praying for all of our walks. Love Bro. Scott
