Psalm 21:1-2 NASB95 For the choir director. A Psalm of David. O LORD, in Your strength the king will be glad, And in Your salvation how greatly he will rejoice! You have given him his heart’s desire, And You have not withheld the request of his lips. Selah.
If the king can find strength for all his responsibilities and concerns, how much more can we? David had to hide from Saul, chose to run from his own son, lost a son due to his own adultery, and placed his nation under judgment from the Lord. Yet he found strength from the Lord and in that strength was glad.
When we feel as if we can not carry on we can look in scripture and see examples throughout of people who found strength and gladness in the Lord. To be glad is to have joy and to be merry. This always comes from the Lord, for although you might find temporary happiness in others, it is only in the Lord you will find joy. The word for glad means to cheer up, be glad, have joy, be merry, and to rejoice.
Joy happens when there is nothing (o) between (J)esus and (y)ou. When this happens, you will be glad and have joy due to your salvation in Him. The text says you will greatly rejoice in this Salvation.
When you get to this point, you will realize the Lord has actually given you your heart's desire. Your desire will be for His will. In that, He has not withheld the request of your lips. So you can rest (selah) and be glad for the Lord has given you strength in this time of struggle.
in Your strength the king will be glad, And in Your salvation how greatly he will rejoice! You have given him his heart’s desire, And You have not withheld the request of his lips. Selah.
Not only the King but you also.
Praise God in your struggles. By His strength, you are glad and rejoice in His salvation. Because His will is your will and He will not withhold your request. So just rest (Selah)
