2 Samuel 19:2 NASB95 The victory that day was turned to mourning for all the people, for the people heard it said that day, “The king is grieved for his son.”
David, had lost his son. Of course, he was sad, but his sadness was causing a negative effect on the nation. As Christians, those who are to be after God's own heart, we must be cautious of our mourning. While mourning is normal and right, we must not let it be excessive to the point that it hinders our witness. God is so gracious, and if we mourn to the point of not receiving the grace that God is offering us, then others will begin to doubt God's Grace.
This was what had happened here. This man, after God's own heart, was causing people to doubt David's love of God. In time it was causing them to doubt God.
We have a God who provides peace beyond understanding. If we refuse His peace offered to us in grace, then why would the lost think God's grace is as wonderful as it is?
David, showed this in the loss of another son. The first son of Bathsheba. David mourned his son and prayed until the son died, then He stood and began to live in God's peace and grace.
Have you been mourning to the point that you have hindered others from receiving the peace of God through His glorious grace? If so, then you need to know, as David realized, that not only are you hindering people from experiencing God, you are also hindering the growth of your relationship with Him as well.
Jesus wept. The shortest verse in our English translation, reminds us that mourning is right and it is how we should feel when losing a loved one. However, it also reminds us that mourning needs to be temporary and then we rely on God to bring us back to peace.
Don't live life in misery and restlessness, when God is offering you a life of peace and grace. The showing of this to the world after a short period of mourning is such a great testimony of the awesome power of God's love.
During this CHRISTmas season when many are hurting let's show the Love of God to the world in our worship through our lives even when we mourn.
Love Bro. Scott
