Psalm 26:2 NASB95 Examine me, O LORD, and try me; Test my mind and my heart.
David, ask the Lord to examine him. He asked the Lord to check to see where he was in his walk with the Lord. He said Try me. Let me stand trial and see if I have been living in your righteousness. Then he asked Him, Lord, test my mind and my heart, see if they are tuned to you, or are they full of static.
This is a bold statement by David but he knew his heart and his soul sought after the Lord at that moment in his life. I doubt that David would have been happy with what the Lord found. Although David was a man after God's own heart, he was still a man. He was guilty of sin.
I wonder what God would say if I asked Him to do the same for me. I seriously don't desire to find out because as much as I know my failures, faults, and sins, God knows them even better.
Thankfully, it is not I, nor my mind or heart, that determines my eternity. It is decided by God's Grace upon those (including myself) who place the measure of faith that they have been given by God back into Christ.
If you like, feel like you can ask God to examine you for your admission into heaven, you will be sorely disappointed. Please realize this and place your God-given measure of faith in Jesus, and you will receive God's Grace.
With that settled, it is scary but not a bad idea to ask God to reveal to you His findings after He examines, tries, and tests you.
While it is scary to see it can encourage you to strive to serve, work, seek, proclaim, and grow in Christ.
Anything that encourages a closer walk with Jesus is good.
So I suggest getting your salvation secured by Grace through faith if it isn't. Then ask God to check you like He did David. Then don't get discouraged but be encouraged at all you can do to grow in Christ!
