Psalm 30:11-12 NASB95: You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; You have loosed my sackcloth and girded me with gladness, That my soul may sing praise to You and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give thanks to You forever.
The true story of a man who had never walked. He had never crawled. He was completely reliant on his family and friends. He had no wheelchair or electric scooter; his only source of income was being a door greeter at the temple. He relied on tips from generous people. So his family could provide food for him.
For 40 years, this was his life, and there was no expectation of change. Then one day two men walked in. He held out his hand in hopes of some change when one of the men grabbed his hand. He said, I have no money to give you, but I will give you the most valuable thing I have. In the name of Jesus the Christ, walk. The man felt something he had never felt before. He felt his legs. With a tug from the apostle Peter, who had his right hand. He felt strength in his legs, his ankles, his knees, his feet. Where he had felt nothing, he now felt strength. Scripture says, Acts 3:8: With a leap he stood upright and began to walk; and he entered the temple with them, walking and leaping and praising God.
Peter said, " Walk, " but Jesus didn't stop with walking. He gave the man strength to leap, to walk, and to praise. The word leaping in the text means to gush forward and to spring up as to dance.
The man could walk now, but by the strength and power of Jesus' name he had to dance in praise.
In our scripture today, David in Psalm says, "You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; You have loosed my sackcloth and girded me with gladness, That my soul may sing praise to You and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give thanks to You forever."
Maybe Jesus never healed your paralyzed legs or opened your blind eyes. He might not have cast out demons or healed an issue of blood for you. However, if He is your Lord and Savior, then He has turned your mourning into joy (eternal hell into eternal life in His presence). He might not have caused you to walk on water, but if He is your Lord and Savior, then He has removed your burial garment and clothed you in the imputed righteousness of Himself.
I don't know about you, but I would rather have spent my entire life having been blind, deaf, paralyzed, bleeding, and drowned, and enter into heaven knowing that at that moment I will be healed. Than to live my life healthy, rich, and beautiful. Only to enter eternal hell, experiencing the absence of God forevermore.
Thankfully, I have not experienced either, and I will not experience Hell! I won't experience hell because Jesus is my Lord and Savior. So I will proclaim, You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; You have loosed my sackcloth and girded me with gladness, That my soul may sing praise to You and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give thanks to You forever.
Lord, today I pray that all who read this devotional are dancing in your garments of righteousness and gladness. That they are singing praise to You. Giving thanks and refusing to be silent because You are their LORD and SAVIOR, and they realize You rescued them from the roadway to eternal Hell and showed them that You are the Way, the Truth, and the Life! If they are not, then Lord, I pray they would reach out to me so I can Share the Way in praise, thanksgiving, gladness, proclamation, and yes, even dancing. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
