Matthew 28:10 NASB95 Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid; go and take word to My brethren to leave for Galilee, and there they will see Me.”
One of the most common reasons that we don't Share the Way, Share Jesus, Share the Gospel, is that we are afraid. One common fear is messing up or making a mistake. Being afraid that we will not know the answer to one of their questions is another. Then there is the fear of refusal or ridicule because of sharing. Fear that they will get angry with us for sharing and that we might push them further away is another fear we hear often.
I heard a man many years ago say this, and I have remembered it since. "You can be no more lost than lost." There are no levels of lostness. If something is lost, it remains lost until it is found. You can be standing next to it or 100 miles away, but until you find it, it remains lost.
Some might say people have a better chance of being found if they are close to someone. Therefore, if you push them away by saying the wrong thing or making them mad, then they are more lost. This is false. If the person close to them is not actively seeking to find them, then they will remain lost. We must be actively Sharing instead of being frozen in fear. 2 Timothy 1:7: For God has not given us a spirit of timidity, but of power and love and discipline.
In our text, Jesus encourages sharing and discourages fear. He says, "Do not be afraid; go and take word to My brethren." Their fear was of the sighting of the Spirit realm. However, what they saw was not just a spirit; they witnessed a messenger from God, and they did not see a zombie of Jesus. He wasn't walking dead. He was alive! They believed that they were witnessing the power of God and the Truth of Jesus. He is Life, and they were told to share the Way.
Maybe we should read that last part again. He was alive. They believed that they were witnessing the power of God and the Truth of Jesus. He is Life, and they were told to Share the Way. Go and take word to those who don't believe. Remember, the disciples doubted that He was alive until they heard, and some even needed to see. But these ladies standing outside the grave witnessed a messenger who guided them, a Lord who gave them the Truth, Life in the life of Jesus. They believed, and He gave them a command to Share.
Maybe I am missing something here, but this sounds very similar to Salvation. The Holy Spirit convicts. Jesus reveals the Truth of Life that He is risen; we have faith in Him, providing the Way to Eternal life with the Father, and He commands us to Share. Is that not the pattern of Salvation? So we must also take and follow the "Do not be afraid" part as well! Then He said go to Galilee, and there they will see Me.” Galilee is an area in Northern Israel, but its name also has a meaning. That meaning is Circle. They will see me in the circle of Sharing the Way.
Jesus' final command was Matthew 28:19-20: “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
When you Share the Way and disciple then others Share the Way and disciple, and it creates a great circle. In that circle you will see Jesus. So with Jesus there is absolutely no reason to fear!
Besides, as my life verse reminds me, there is power in the Gospel. Sharing the Way, Jesus, The Gospel is power unto Salvation. Salvation is the only way not to be lost! Romans 1:16: For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.
Lord, I pray we will give you all fear, and we will Share the Way in your Power. Amen.
Love, Brother Scott
