We talk about faith a lot. We do this because faith is the means that God gives us to receive His grace.
Faith is the vessel He has given us to receive His grace as He pours it out.
Picture God standing in heaven pouring out grace and as it is flowing down, the only way to receive it is in the vessels of faith which God has molded for each of us. Scripture says He has allotted to all a measure of faith. Do we turn it upright to catch the grace, or do we use it as an umbrella to keep His grace from landing on us? Most people attempt to make their own vessel, but these are unable to hold the grace, and it just runs off.
Paul tells us in Ephesians 2:8 that we are saved by Grace through faith.
John tells us in His gospel 3:16 that all who believe in the Son of God shall be saved.
The words believe and faith have almost a completely identical meaning.
pisteúō [to believe, trust], pístis [faith, trust],
pisteúō John 3:16
pístis Ephesians 2:8
Both truly mean to commit to truth as with proof and obey
The world says, " After I see it, I will believe it.
God says, believe it and then you will see it.
People struggle to understand true faith or belief because Satan has given us so many things to believe in that are not true. Starting as children and continuing as adults.
God, on the other hand, has always said to trust in Him. He never tells us to trust in anything apart from Him, in His Son, His Spirit, and His word.
Isaiah 26:4 NASB95 “Trust in the LORD forever, For in GOD the LORD, we have an everlasting Rock.
Proverbs 3:5 NASB95 Trust in the LORD with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding.
So how do we do this?
People often use this verse to describe faith.
Hebrews 11:1 NASB95 Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.
This is a great way to define faith. However, I want to show you another verse God gives us to define faith.
Speaking of Abraham, scripture describes his faith as, Romans 4:21 NASB95 and being fully assured that what God had promised, He was able also to perform.
This is faith! Knowing completely that what the omnipotent (All-Powerful) God has promised. He is able to do.
It is committing what you know to be fact even when you haven't seen it.
God is able and has outside of our time already saved all who place their faith in Jesus. They, by turning their God-given faith (vessel) upright (toward Jesus), have received the grace of God!
Romans 10:9-11 NASB95 that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation. For the Scripture says, “WHOEVER BELIEVES IN HIM WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.”
God has given you faith. Have you 100 percent committed Christ to truth by confessing with your mouth and believing with your heart (the innermost part of you being)?
If you are unsure let me tell you what I KNOW!
1 Corinthians 15:3-4 NASB95 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures.
Do you KNOW with all that you are that this is true? Then confess it. Let a fellow believer know. You can reach out to me, I would love to know you are now part of God's family.
I am,
fully assured that what God had promised, He was able also to perform.
That is faith!
Love Bro. Scott
