Esther 2:1 NASB95 After these things when the anger of King Ahasuerus had subsided, he remembered Vashti and what she had done and what had been decreed against her.
We are all guilty of doing the same thing King Ahasuerus did. That is responding quickly in our anger. God warns against this in several scripture verses. He gives us His example repeatedly showing that He is slow to anger. Exodus 34:6 NASB95 Then the LORD passed by in front of him and proclaimed, “The LORD, the LORD God, compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in lovingkindness and truth;
He also shows us His anger is most assuredly against those who refuse the Blessing of His guidance. Numbers 32:13 NASB95 “So the LORD’S anger burned against Israel, and He made them wander in the wilderness forty years, until the entire generation of those who had done evil in the sight of the LORD was destroyed.
His anger is always aimed at causing repentance of those who have sinned against, Him. 2 Chronicles 12:12 NASB95 And when he humbled himself, the anger of the LORD turned away from him, so as not to destroy him completely; and also conditions were good in Judah.
He teaches us not to react to hastily in anger. Proverbs 19:11 NASB95 A man’s discretion makes him slow to anger, And it is his glory to overlook a transgression.
He teaches us not to hold onto or dwell in our anger. Ephesians 4:26 NASB95 BE ANGRY, AND yet DO NOT SIN; do not let the sun go down on your anger,
He teaches us that our anger is not equivalent to or even close to the anger of God. His anger is righteous and brings about guidance unto repentance, whereas our anger brings about hate and unrighteous behavior. James 1:20 NASB95 for the anger of man does not achieve the righteousness of God.
Much like King Ahasuerus, when we act in our anger we tend to regret it. It takes a righteous person to have righteous anger, and righteousness is an attribute of God only. Therefore, we can not be righteous apart from God, and without God's guidance, our anger will lead to foolishness. Ecclesiastes 7:9 NASB95 Do not be eager in your heart to be angry, For anger resides in the bosom of fools.
We see this example in Esther. However, when we fail and respond in our unrighteous anger, we must not give up. Because just like God did in the book of Esther, He can do for us. Romans 8:28 NASB95 And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.
When your anger subsides will you be sorry and regret your anger? If so maybe post a scripture on your mirror to see several times a day. Maybe put a scripture in your car or on your desk. Just leave scripture where you will see it often. Leave them in places where you get angry. This way you will be reminded that, Proverbs 16:32 NASB95 He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, And he who rules his spirit, than he who captures a city.
