James 5:19-20 NASB95 My brethren, if any among you strays from the truth and one turns him back, let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins.
When I surrendered to the ministry after many years of fighting against the Lord, there was one person I greatly desired to tell. It was the pastor who I was being discipled by when I was called. I found him and thanked him for pouring into me.
There was another person whom I did not call who had a large part in it. I didn't call her because she had already gone to be with the Lord. This person was my Granny.
There was a time earlier in my life when I strayed away. I knew the truth, but I turned away from it, and she would remind me fairly regularly that I needed to repent. I would get to the point where I didn't feel like talking to her because I didn't want to hear the truth. However, she didn't give up and she was instrumental in my turning back. I have no doubt that if I hadn't turned back, God would have had no reason to leave me here. He could have taken me on. I believed in Him. He was my Savior. I told people this and yet I lived in sin. I was being harmful to people seeking God. I was convicted of this, but I would avoid people whom God used to convict me. I avoided church. I avoided my Granny, and I avoided friends who preached the gospel to me. Then I attempted to justify my sins with twisted scripture that was whispered in my ear by Satan.
Thanks to several people being used by God, my Granny included, I repented. God left me here, and my sins are forgiven, and I attempt to do the same. I wish I could thank my Granny right now for being bold in the truth and turning me back to God.
James says, let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins.
If someone has or is helping you turn around from sin then let them know. Tell them. If you are helping someone turn from sin back to the truth then let this be your encouragement. You might very well save them from death. It could be physical for the saved or Spiritual and physical for the lost but you are working toward covering a multitude of sins.
Let me just say today, thank you to Granny, my family, and all others who had a part many years ago, in helping to turn a stray, back toward the home of the truth. I might have been angry then, but I am thankful to God for you now!
Listen to those who are seeking to turn you from sin and thank those who have. Then start working on turning others.
Love Bro. Scott
