Have you ever looked at an old family photograph and seen someone who you looked like? Maybe you were looking at a great-grandparent or an aunt or uncle when they were your age, and you thought to yourself, "Wow, they look just like me." It often leads you to want to find out about them. What were they like? How did they live? Were we similar in more than just appearance?

My Dad had male pattern baldness. If you have ever seen me, you know I keep my head shaved. One day while shaving, I looked in the mirror and saw something that just jumped out at me. I had shaved the center of my head, and without planning it, I had the shaving cream in the shape of male pattern baldness. It looked as if I had male pattern baldness, and at that moment I saw my dad looking back at me. It really took me by surprise. It instantly got me thinking: would my dad be pleased with the man I had become? If I looked so much like him, I would want to be like him as well. At least the good parts.

Today God led me to the first verse of the prayer Jesus prayed shortly before His death. Look at the first thing Jesus asked His Father and why. John 17:1 NASB95 Jesus spoke these things; and lifting up His eyes to heaven, He said, “Father, the hour has come; glorify Your Son, that the Son may glorify You.

Glorify Your Son so that the Son may glorify You. Jesus asked God to use Him to point to God the Father. In other words, God, make Me look just like You in My life so that people will see Me and come to know You. Jesus is saying, "God, I want everyone to look at Me and see You." I want them to know Your value by My actions.

An Elvis Presley impersonator desires to look and sound like Elvis. They want people to wonder, " Am I looking at Elvis? However, Jesus didn't want to impersonate God the Father; He wanted God to reveal Himself in God the Son. I remember as a young boy when someone would say There is no doubt you are Doug's boy; you are him made over.

The closer I get to God the Father, the more I desire Jesus' prayer in my own life. I loved my earthly father, but my heavenly Father is Holy, Righteous, Just, full of Grace, and these are all things I want people to see in me. I want to look in the mirror and see God the Father. I want people to look at me and see Him. I desire for people to watch me live and say He is Godly. Unfortunately, I am not the perfect image of God the Father like Jesus is. Because of this, I am thankful for His mercy and grace.

May we pray, live, and truly desire to glorify the Father.

I look forward to the day when I stand before God, and He looks at me and says I see no sin; I see my Son. I can say thank you, Jesus, for glorifying the Father, showing His Humility, saving me by His grace, and clothing me in Your righteousness.

Until that day, I pray. Father, glorify Your Son so that the Son may glorify You.

Unlike Jesus, I am unworthy, but I have been adopted, and they say, spend enough time with someone and you start to look and act like them. Lord, may I be with you continually until I am with you eternally. Until then may You be Glorified in me!
