1 Corinthians 10:24 NASB95 Let no one seek his own good, but that of his neighbor.
Such a powerful verse that explains the thought and action of Christ and His example for us to follow.
Jesus had all the glory of heaven. He created all things, and all things are created to reveal His glory. Yet some of His creation decided in their freedom to attempt to reveal their glory instead. What they did not realize is that they have no glory apart from God. All the glory they saw in themselves was just a reflection of God's glory. In their freedom, which God gave to reveal His love and sovereignty, they sought themselves by mistaking God's glory for their own.
Of course, I am describing Satan and his demons. However, it also describes those who have followed the example of Satan rather than the example of Jesus. I just explained Satan's example now let's look at Jesus'. So Jesus actually has glory. Yet instead of holding on to it for His own good, He leaves all the glories of heaven. He comes to earth through a virgin womb wrapped in mortal flesh, and suffers all temptation, and all the struggles of this fallen sinful world. These, of course, include death and the wages of all OUR SINS. Why would He do that? It is simply because He sought not His own good but that of His neighbors. We are His neighbors! Christ thought enough of those who wronged Him to suffer in their place. He thought enough of us who are undeserving to put His own creation before HIS OWN GLORY. In so doing He has revealed to us His unmatched and undescribable glory. Then He says follow me.
Let NO ONE seek HIS OWN good, BUT that of HIS NEIGHBOR.
Are you living to see others come to Christ or to please yourself? Does your life show an example of Satan seeking to reveal his own non-existent glory, or to reflect the glory of Jesus to others?
Such a powerful verse that explains the thought and action of Christ and His example for us to follow.
Remember your life is not about you! In fact, it isn't even your life! It belongs to the creator. Do not mistake His love and sovereignty as a sign that you have the right to glory. He is so sovereign that He reveals His sovereignty through allowing us freewill. That means in the end He is still sovereign and the glory is still His.
You have no glory apart from God and you can do no good on your own. What appears good to you, apart from God, is a stumbling block for your neighbors and reveals your filth.
You see glory apart from God is actually filth!
Let me just repeat this powerful verse one last time. 1 Corinthians 10:24 NASB95 Let no one seek his own good, but that of his neighbor.
