Righteousness is an attribute of God. There is no righteousness apart from Him. Mankind's only righteousness is in Christ through the Holy Spirit, revealed in obedience to the commandments of God the Father.
Righteousness is an attribute of God and is applied to God Himself as to His character. The Lord is the just judge even to the utmost degree as the judge of all the earth. Therefore His standards, His judgments set out in His word are righteous. Being everlasting, they are the confidence of His people and will not fail. God’s hate of sin and love of righteousness express His essential righteousness. Therefore righteousness and judgment are the habitation (“foundation” , ) of God’s throne, i.e. they always characterize His actions. (TWOT).
When we think of righteousness we should immediately think of God. Everything that is God is righteous in all ways. From wrath to forgiveness, from love to hate, from peace to war. From freedom to judgment, if it belongs to God it is righteous and just.
Our text today says, Psalm 7:17 NASB95 I will give thanks to the LORD according to His righteousness And will sing praise to the name of the LORD Most High.
I will GIVE THANKS to the LORD. We would agree with that. We should give thanks to the LORD. But how much is the question that this verse answers. I will give thanks to the LORD according to His righteousness! After seeing that everything about God is righteous, including every action He takes. Plus after realizing that there is no righteousness apart from Him, for He is the author and definition of righteousness. Then as we give thanks to the LORD according to His righteousness, our thanks should be continual, and without pause, just as His righteousness is!
This doesn't mean we are thankful only when He answers our prayers according to our desires, but also when He answers against our desires. This is because either way His answer is righteous.
This doesn't mean we are only thankful when we don't suffer, but that we are thankful to Him in the midst of suffering. This is because what He allows is righteous. Just as His word tells us in Romans 8:28 NASB95 And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.
This doesn't mean we are only thankful at church, but that we are thankful in the sleepless nights and the tiring work. It means we are thankful when we are physically full and in the midst of hunger.
At all times and in all situations we are to thank the LORD because He is Righteous!
He is Jehovah Tsidkenu, The LORD our Righteousness!
I will give thanks to the LORD according to His Righteousness. I will do so in all ways and at all times because He is fully righteous. The Psalmist says one way I will give thanks for His righteousness is, I will sing praise to the name of the LORD Most High.
I praise Yahweh Sedeq (the LORD our Righteousness) because, He is Yahweh Elyon (the LORD Most High) and in His Righteousness He redeemed me. He is my Lord and Savior, Jesus (Jehovah's Salvation).
Righteousness gives freely, without regard for gain.
This is My Lord if He is yours then give thanks according to His Righteousness.
Love Bro. Scott
Ps; are you giving thanks right now?
