Matthew 1:24 NASB95 And Joseph awoke from his sleep and did as the angel of the Lord commanded him, and took Mary as his wife,

Without question. Joseph awoke and did as the messenger of the Lord COMMANDED and took Mary as his wife.

Mary was with child (pregnant), and that child was not Joseph's. So He, being a righteous man (meaning a man of Godly character), was going to send her away quietly. Everything he saw said Mary had been unfaithful. Yet, in his Godly character, he did not desire to put her to shame. So the Godly thing to do was to not shame her yet also to not accept her sin.

This was his plan because he was of Godly character. Then, while asleep, he heard a message from the Lord. Do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife; for the Child who has been conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.

Our text says that Joseph awoke from his sleep and did as the angel of the Lord commanded him, and took Mary as his wife.

Joseph did not question God. Joseph did not hesitate. Joseph did not ponder. Joseph simply woke up and obeyed. No thought was given to what others would think or say. No time was spent discussing this with the Lord. Joseph just awoke and obeyed.

The word awoke is the same word used for raised. In Romans 6:4 we are raised like Christ to walk in new life.

Joseph got up to a new day. He got up to a new life. He would be the earthly father of the Son of God.

Why was Joseph given this Job? Maybe because he understood the word from God to be a command.

The word commanded means to ordain.

God gives His word or message to us to ordain us to follow. Do we see it that way? We can obey or not. However, if we want to live a life of Godly character, a life raised or awoken to be new in Christ Jesus, then we need to see it as a command. Without question or hesitation obey it.

As I have shared on many occasions God can not lie so to hear Him say "well done" you must have "done well"

Awake to a new life of obedience to the Father and be known as a person of righteousness, (of Godly character.)

Wake up! Now what are you going to do?

Love Bro. Scott
