Deuteronomy 9:6 NASB95 “Know, then, it is not because of your righteousness that the LORD your God is giving you this good land to possess, for you are a stubborn people.
If you were to stand before God today and He asked you, why should I allow you to spend eternity with me, what would your answer be?
Moses reminded the people over and over in this chapter that it was not because of their righteousness that they would be brought into the promise land. They were not righteous, they were a stubborn people. Isaiah reminds us in Isaiah 64:6 NASB95 For all of us have become like one who is unclean, And all our righteous deeds are like a filthy garment; And all of us wither like a leaf, And our iniquities, like the wind, take us away.
David writes in Psalm 53:2-3 NASB95 God has looked down from heaven upon the sons of men To see if there is anyone who understands, Who seeks after God. Every one of them has turned aside; together they have become corrupt; There is no one who does good, not even one.
Paul reminds us in Romans 3:10 NASB95 as it is written, “THERE IS NONE RIGHTEOUS, NOT EVEN ONE;
We can not produce in our lifetime a righteousness that is deserving of us possessing eternity in His presence. Yet we are continually told by the world that you can be good enough. As we can see from scripture this is not the truth.
So how can we be sure we can get into the promised eternal life with God?
Moses told the people in Deuteronomy 10:12-15 NASB95 “Now, Israel, what does the LORD your God require from you, but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all His ways and love Him, and to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and to keep the LORD’S commandments and His statutes which I am commanding you today for your good? “Behold, to the LORD your God belong heaven and the highest heavens, the earth and all that is in it. “Yet on your fathers did the LORD set His affection to love them, and He chose their descendants after them, even you above all peoples, as it is this day.
You have not feared, walked, loved, or served Him with ALL your heart and soul. You have not kept ALL the Lord's commandments and statutes
The Lord loves you and He does everything so that you can receive His grace. Romans 5:8 NASB95 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
John 3:16 NASB95 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.
So, if you were to stand before God today and He asked you, why should I allow you to spend eternity with me, what would your answer be?
It has to start and end with God.
God the Son saved my soul so I can be with God the Father.
