Micah 7:2 NASB1995 The godly person has perished from the land, And there is no upright person among men. All of them lie in wait for bloodshed; Each of them hunts the other with a net.
In our nation, places where there have been great movements of God. Now fall into the description of our text. I have friends in New England. They are there pushing against the darkness of evil with the light of the gospel. It is a place where Godly people, upright people, used to be prevalent during The first and second Great Awakening, but they have since perished from the land. We look at the Midwest in Chicago and surrounding areas, and we see much of the same, as what some call the Third Great Awakening, has long since gone, and darkness has taken its place. We go to the West and evil shrouds darkness where the light of the gospel once shined through during the Jesus Movement.
We in the South think it won't happen here, but I tell you, it has already started. Churches struggle as people of God are rapidly perishing from the land. However, it doesn't have to continue. Yes those that are not upright are here lying in wait but they won't be successful if the godly upright people will not leave the land and will once again push back the darkness with a bold proclamation of the gospel.
Micah paints a grim picture in our text, but if we keep reading, we come to Micah 7:8-9 NASB1995. Do not rejoice over me, O my enemy. Though I fall I will rise; Though I dwell in darkness, the Lord is a light for me. I will bear the indignation of the Lord Because I have sinned against Him, Until He pleads my case and executes justice for me. He will bring me out to the light, And I will see His righteousness.
You see we can't stop where we are. If we do, the darkness pushes in, and light leaves the land. No movement will end up causing backward movement. When you don't advance you eventually retreat. If we don't want to see the light perish we must keep moving. We have been in a time of suspended movement and we are starting to see a reverse.
We must start pushing forward or we will see the godly perish. Don't stop at verse 2 keep moving to verses 7-8. Don't stop then either because Jesus comes in the New Testament and He will return again.
So godly people march with action and word to spread the light so darkness flees.
