Isaiah 61:1-2 NASB95 The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me, Because the LORD has anointed me To bring good news to the afflicted; He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to captives And freedom to prisoners; To proclaim the favorable year of the LORD And the day of vengeance of our God; To comfort all who mourn,

The Lord Jesus, who in the beginning was the word, with God and is God, said speaking of himself. The Spirit of the Lord is upon me. The Lord has anointed me, to bring good news to the afflicted.

He then came over 700 years later and did this. Luke 4:16-21 NASB95 And He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up; and as was His custom, He entered the synagogue on the Sabbath, and stood up to read. And the book of the prophet Isaiah was handed to Him. And He opened the book and found the place where it was written, “THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD IS UPON ME, BECAUSE HE ANOINTED ME TO PREACH THE GOSPEL TO THE POOR. HE HAS SENT ME TO PROCLAIM RELEASE TO THE CAPTIVES, AND RECOVERY OF SIGHT TO THE BLIND, TO SET FREE THOSE WHO ARE OPPRESSED, TO PROCLAIM THE FAVORABLE YEAR OF THE LORD.” And He closed the book, gave it back to the attendant and sat down; and the eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on Him. And He began to say to them, “Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.”

He stood up and read the prophecy of the Messiah who would come to preach the Good News (Gospel), and then He gave them the Good News! TODAY THIS SCRIPTURE HAS BEEN FULFILLED IN YOUR HEARING.”

The Good news was that the Messiah had come.

He fulfilled His own commission!

He would spend His time binding up the broken hearted. This means to hold together tightly like a compression cast. He would not allow the heart that comes to Him to remain broken.

He proclaimed liberty to captives, this is to spontaneously set free what was bound in sin.

He would provide freedom to prisoners. This is to break down and bust open the prison of death. (He walked out of that grave!)

To proclaim the favorable year of the LORD.

The year of jubilee, through His death, the debt was paid and forgiven!

The day of vengeance of our God. The wrath of His absence as the pulling of His Holy Spirit out as the church is raptured and the time of separation begins and then continues for those who refuse Him!

To comfort all who mourn. He does this in His Holy Spirit (the comforter), indwelling of the church. Acts 9:31 NASB95 So the church throughout all Judea and Galilee and Samaria enjoyed peace, being built up; and going on in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, it continued to increase.

Jesus gave us a commission to fulfill just as He fulfilled His.

Matthew 28:19-20 NASB95 “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

He came to fulfill His commission and He did so to the fullest!

Have we fulfilled ours? How many disciples have we made in all the nations? How many have been baptized in the name (authority) of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, through your life ministry?

We have dropped the ball. We have not fulfilled but spilled the cup He has given us. Opportunities are not by chance but planned in advance by God to not spill but fulfill the cup of His commission.

This takes planning. Jesus planned and fulfilled. Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.”

We must plan to fulfill His commission. May we be able to go to bed tonight having read the great commission, saying, I went and made disciples of the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that you commanded us. Lord today your scripture was fulfilled in your presence in my life!

Lord may it be. Amen

Love Bro. Scott
