Would you climb into a cage with a hungry lion? Would you reach your hand into a pit of poisonous vipers? Would you slap a Grizzly? The answer is no. That is, unless you have a death wish or have been trained in how to handle that animal. Even then, you will be extremely cautious because you know what they are capable of.
In the book of Job, God speaks of an animal that no one today knows for certain what it is. There are descriptions throughout Scripture, and many people have made assumptions and educated guesses; however, even then, there is no one who is certain they are correct. However, some things are known about the Leviathan. It was strong, dangerous, lived in or around water, and was virtually impossible to catch. Those who attempted to were in great danger so it was for the most part respected and left alone.
In our text today God has been speaking about the dangerous and deadly Leviathan. Then He says, Job 41:10 NASB95 “No one is so fierce that he dares to arouse him; Who then is he that can stand before Me?
We wouldn't dare to agitate a lion. Yet man seems almost eager to anger the one who shuts the lion's mouth with ease. Mankind seems to have no problem with ignoring the God who created the lion.
The same goes with the viper. We are very cautious around and avoid the viper or serpent. Yet we don't seem to mind messing with the one who crushes the serpent's head. The one who created him we seem to have little or no regard for.
The bear is dangerous and we won't dare mess with it. Yet the God who created it and says that he will make it so that these will graze and lie down together, man shows very little reverence for. Isaiah 11:7 NASB95 Also the cow and the bear will graze, Their young will lie down together, And the lion will eat straw like the ox.
It makes no sense that we show fear of the animals that we are to have dominion over and refuse to show reverence to the one who gave us life. Job 41:10 NASB95 “No one is so fierce that he dares to arouse him (Leviathan); Who then is he that can stand before Me?
To answer God's question no one can stand before you.
Yet in sin mankind has pridefully tried.
Lord, I pray that all would realize this and bow before you now instead of when it is too late.
Philippians 2:10 NASB95 so that at the name of Jesus EVERY KNEE WILL BOW, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
You wouldn't attempt to make Leviathan angry! Don't stand and mock his and your creator!!
