1 John 5:1 NASB95 Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and whoever loves the Father loves the child born of Him.
Have you ever had a different belief than your GPS? You believe you are right, but the GPS speaks with such authority that you decide to follow it.
What does this have to do with our devo text? Well, many people call themselves Christian because they believe that Jesus is the Son of God. We are told by our text to believe. We are also told in John 3:16 NASB95 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.
If we believe, we will be saved. It requires faith you have to believe in what you can't see. Hebrews 11:1 NASB95 Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.
The ASSURANCE, the CONVICTION, (EVIDENCE), of things not seen.
Many people are fooled by an insignificant belief. You believe you know the way, but because your belief is so weak or insignificant, you listen to the GPS.
The word believe in our text and in John 3:16 is the Greek word pisteuō. It means to commit or trust completely. I have always described it as, believe means to commit it to truth. I have such a strong belief that I know it to be true. An insignificant belief is so inconsequential, that I might turn and follow anyone who speaks with authority or shows me a sign that says turn right to reach your destination.
If I truly believe (commit it to truth), then I am following my belief.
I believe that Jesus is the Christ and is born of God. That is to say, I know it is the truth that Jesus is the Christ and is born of God.
You have a better chance of convincing me that my two dogs are whales than you do of changing my belief that Jesus is the Christ and is born of God. (It will not happen)
My belief goes deeper than vision, it goes deeper than knowledge, it goes deeper than mind, it goes deeper than heart, it goes deeper than the word of my parents, my teachers, my pastors, my wife, my children, and even myself. My belief is rooted in the relationship I have with Jesus, my Savior, God, my Father, and The Holy Spirit, my Indweller, Comforter, and Guide. It is rooted in my soul!
I love the Father, and I love the child born of Him.
I insignificantly and inconsequentially believe in my directions to many locations, and in many things, however, I pisteuō (commit to truth) by faith that Jesus is my Savior.
My faith has the assurance and conviction of a personal relationship with Jesus that is stronger than ANY other relationship I have. I love Him because He first loved me. It is through that love that I love all others!
1 John 4:19-21 NASB95 We love, because He first loved us. If someone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for the one who does not love his brother whom he has seen, cannot love God whom he has not seen. And this commandment we have from Him, that the one who loves God should love his brother also.
How do you believe? It requires more than a worldly belief. It requires pisteuō (commit to truth) by faith. A belief that causes love.
True belief is knowing it is truth and loving Him. True love is truth.
Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and whoever loves the Father loves the child born of Him.
Do you believe?
Love Bro. Scott
